    we care!!!
The Golden Rule to Smart Tanning…… Don’t ever sunburn!
Always Remember to Tan in Moderation!!!

    • Always wear FDA approved eyewear and have your eyewear ready to show the staff every time before you tan!
    • Tan every other day for 3-4 weeks to reach your maximum tan.
    • You must wait a minimum of 24 hours between tanning sessions up to 48 hours between tanning sessions depending on which level of tanning bed / booth you are using!
    • You may not exceed the maximum exposure time recommended by the tanning device manufacturer.
    • When tanning in levels 3 and 4…you should skip 2 (+) days between tans once your tan time has reached 10-20 minutes.
    • When using Level 4…you cannot tan the day before or the day after.  It takes a full 48 hours for your tan to appear.
    • Tan once/twice a week to maintain your tan depending on your skin type & which level of bed you’re using.
    • Do not tan indoors & outdoors on the same day!
    • It is required by the state of North Dakota if the customer is under the age of 18 a signature is required by a parent a legal guardian in the presence of the owner/employee of Tan Express and no customer under the age of 14 is allowed to tan unless a licensed physician in ND has provided the customer with a written order that must be provided to Tan Express and attached to the release form before the use of a tanning bed / booth.  A parent or legal guardian must also accompany anyone under the age of 14 years of age during every tanning session.
    • Tanning induces the well-being…with adequate exposure to sunlight a few times a week you can reduce the risk of osteoporosis, clear acne, osteomalacia (soften of the bone), depression, psoriasis, muscle weakness, fractures & maybe some common cancers by sunlight providing Vitamin D to cells which need to grow properly to inhibit cancer growth in the role to prevention of breast, colon & prostate cancers.
    • If taking medications, please check our medication list & check with your Doctor to avoid a reaction from UV light.
    • Treat ND wind burn as a sunburn…always cover your face/neck with a towel while tanning.
    • Our “Aloe Freeze Spray Gel” is great to keep in the fridge or camping cooler for temporary pain relief from sunburn, minor burns, windburn & other skin irritations.
    • If you have sensitive skin to the sun…you may also be sensitive to indoor tanning.
    • Ask  for a wet towel to wipe the bottom acrylic on the bed before you tan if you have sensitive skin towards cleaners that may cause a rash.
    • Fair skin tanners…Tan for less time…it’s a myth that you need to burn first before you tan.  (A red or pinkish tinge is a burn which means over exposure…do not tan area’s that are pink and/or red.)  A red / pinkish tinge will only dry out your skin…dry skin flakes off…so tan in moderation and don’t let your tan flake off.
    • If you are pregnant, check with your doctor before tanning indoors.  Be sensible…you may want to decrease your tanning time to avoid getting to hot…take care of those hormones!!!
    • Contact lenses may be worn while tanning indoors.  When proper protective eyewear is worn, it is impossible for UV light to penetrate to the eyes or lens.  If your eyes become dry to due to the heat generated, use eye drops to moisturize the eyes, or for your comfort remove your contact lenses.
    • Purchase self tanner towelettes to cover tan lines around your eyes that may be caused by FDA approved eye protection if not worn properly. (It’s a small price to pay to protect your eyes!)
    • If you plan to tan in the nude, cover previously unexposed areas with the TeeNee Bikini, Sock It or a towel for the majority of your tanning sessions for the first few visits.  Reusable gel nipple covers are also available to protect sensitive skin from burning, cracking & drying from UV exposure.  Gradually increase exposure to these areas, giving the skin time to rebuild melanin production.   (Remember to wear the same style of clothing to cover-up each time you tan).
    • Remove all your jewelry before tanning & remember to put it back on!
    • Wear “Nail Savers” to prevent your Acrylic Nails/French Manicures from turning yellow.
    • Use a Solar Cap to prevent your hair color from fading or bleaching out.
    • Do not tan your face, bikini line, etc. after having a wax…allow 24-48 hours before tanning!
    • The product “Halt” aids in the eradication of white dry patches of skin that will not tan.  Results after 3 or 4 weeks of use.
    • Get a Tan Tattoo by using a sticker on the same spot each time you tan.
    • Purchase our SPF Lip Balm or SPF Face Guard for real tattoo’s to prevent the color on the tattoo from fading.
    • To prevent burning new scars or fresh scratches apply SPF Lip Balm or SPF Face Guard.
    • Apply SPF to your lips…lips do not produce melanin and may burn easily.
    • Indoor tanning lotion recommended by Tan Express helps moisturize & prepare your skin for UV-exposure.
    • Tanning lotion with a “Bronzer” adds more color to your skin. Your tan will appear faster and last longer! Never use tanning lotion with a Bronzer or a Tingle if you have sensitive skin.
    • When using a lotion with a bronzer… use the moisturizing lotion in the tanning room on your hands first and then use a wet one to wipe your hands and between your fingers after you apply the bronzer to avoid staining.
    • Never use lotions with a “Tingle” on your face.
    • Use our bronzing powder on your face to enhance your sunshine glow!
    • Outdoor tanning lotions are not allowed….it may prevent tanning results and ruin the acrylic.
    • Your tan is your outside layer…using a tanning lotion with hemp adds extra moisture to your skin…dry skin flakes off---which causes your tan to flake off!  Exfoliate 1-2 times weekly before tanning and always shave with a sharp razor.
    • Gals…to avoid the browning of the mustache/beard look which is sometimes caused by not exfoliating the fine dry skin on your upper lip and jaw line…remember to exfoliate those areas!
    • Hydrate your skin by drinking plenty of water!  You will tan better!!!
    • Use Wet Ones to remove make-up.  (Just a reminder….using make-up with SPF will prevent you from getting the full effects of tanning).
    • Be considerate to other tanners waiting to tan…Use the restroom to reapply your make-up…not the tanning room.
    • To get the max use of the lay down tanning beds....pull the top 3-4” away from your body.
    • Lift up your arms 3-4 inches away from the top acrylic when laying on your back to maximum your tanning results on your arms…do the Pilates Ab move…tanner arms and a flatter stomach…you can’t loose!  J
    • Push “start” on the timer on the wall when you are ready to start the bed/stand-up…taking longer then 5 minutes will take away from your tanning time.
    • Listen for the timers to beep ½ ways through your tanning session as a reminder to flip over to avoid the white spots (pressure points) that may appear on your shoulder blades and/or tail bone.  Also remember to lift your arms above your head to tan your arm pits.
    • “Tan Cool” in the lay down beds by turning on the fan switch that’s located on the middle of the wall between the top & bottom of the bed.   Turn the switch on “high” by turning it towards your toes…turn to “low” by turning it towards your head. Cool air will blow on you from the vent located on the wall at the foot end of the bed.
    • For levels 3 & 4 use the + & - located on the control panel inside the Universe & Stand-up tanning units to control the fan.
    • Do not push “start” or go by the time on the control panels of Levels 3 & 4.  Always use the timers on the wall. (The timer on the bed/stand up is never correct…the timers on the wall is what is hooked up to our computer system!)
    • All tanning equipment fans run a few minutes after your tan to cool the bed/booth down before the next tanner. (The 4 or 5 that appears on the timer inside the bed / booth in levels 3 & 4 when the bed / booth shuts off...is the cooling off time!)  One bulb stays on in the Level three stand-up after your tanning time is completed to act as a night light.
    • The “Facial Bulb” switch is located on the right upper part of the tanning bed on levels 1 through 3.  The Facial switch for Level 4 is located on the control panel to your right when lying on your back!  Facial Bulbs also tan your neck & shoulders and are designed for you to use for only ½ of your tanning time.
    • When tanning in the Stand-up…stand in the middle with your legs 3-4 inches away from the tanning bulbs & grab onto the handles.  (If your arm pits have not seen the sun…do not hold onto the handles for the full amount of tanning time).
    • Use the Tan Express Lotion located on the bench in your tanning room every time after you tan to hydrate your skin and to take away any pinkish that may occur during your tan.  Moisturized skin is an important factor in maintaining your tan!
    • Enjoy your after tan mint on your pillow!  J
    • The Tan Express staff will sanitize your tanning bed/booth.
    • Enjoy immediate bronzing results with a spray on tan…call stores for details!  Reminder that there is no UV protection with a spray tan…just instant golden bronze color.  Dries quickly and we use a patented laser guide to deliver a smooth, gorgeous, perfectly even tan.
    • Do not compare Tanning Salons …all tanning equipment, bulbs & tanning time may vary.  Listen to the trained staff on your recommended tanning time.
    • Tan Express changes all tanning bulbs 100 hours earlier then the recommended usage to insure quality to our customers!
    • It is best to tan 3-5 minutes less on newly changed bulbs to prevent over-exposure.
    • Please inform us of any comments you may have…we want to continue to be The Best We Can Be for YOU!!!
    • If you forgot to use the restroom before you checked in for tanning…no problem….just ask us to re-set your tanning time!
    • Use SPF 30 wipes for sunburn protection while spending time outdoors…no more sticky hands from applying sunscreen lotion!
    • Remember to protect yourself when spending time outdoors…put on sunscreens that block both UVA and UVB light.  And remember to wear sunscreen even though you have a great base tan…being exposed to the sun for a long period of time may still cause you to burn….and besides, who wants Tan Lines???

Thank you for choosing Tan Express to be your indoor Sunshine!
